    The overarching strategic goal of UNICEF's ICT Division is to transform and build partnerships with our stakeholders to successfully implement UNICEF programmes globally through the use of innovative technology-enabled solutions.

    The incumbent of this post will support the design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of UNICEF’s Performance Management and Business Intelligence (BI) systems, including custom development and customization for all UNICEF’s BI applications/landscapes. He/she will be identifying and analyzing industry trends in the area of Business Intelligence, and building and maintaining BI applications for reporting for all UNICEF locations, as defined in the Business Information / Corporate Reporting Programme. The incumbent will ensure that reporting solutions and related infrastructure are available to meet end user needs with accuracy, timeliness and consistency. She or he will support development of a user friendly interface that is accommodating to the needs of users in field offices as well as in headquarter locations. 

    How can you make a difference?

    • Develop and review work plans / timelines for the inception, technical design, development, testing and delivery of BI solutions. Coordinate with business analysts to understand business needs and requirements. Collaborate with other UNICEF ICT teams to develop and implement technology solutions in alignment with IT product roadmaps, which achieve the ICT strategy and while also reducing overall technology platform operating costs.
    • Analyze functional business requirements and participate in the development of business cases in the support of process changes and/or IT projects. Work with business analysts, development and technical architecture teams to drive the next generation of analytical and business intelligence capabilities. Coordinate with other ICT teams to define and build the data architecture, data mart and reporting layers to facilitate standardized reporting. Develop open standard based data services to enable simplified data availability for all users.
    • Analyze and test new releases/versions of software. Research and recommend new and emerging technologies and frameworks for big data, analytics and reporting. Interface with vendors to keep abreast of new technologies, pricing, and customer applicability. Participate in vendor evaluations. Interface with architects to recommend new technology opportunities that will have an impact on BI systems and enterprise-wide BI and analytics platforms.
    • Troubleshoot reports, data and software issues. Troubleshoot reported data loads or reconciliation inconsistencies in conjunction with the sites for data models and/or reports. Track, monitor and analyze performance and production issues, and implement enhancements. Support and manage external resources, such as outsourced providers and manage vendor delivery. Provide guidance, coaching, training, and problem solving assistance to other team members.

    To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

    • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in computer science, software engineering, management information systems, information technology management or other related science field. A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
    • A minimum of 5 (five) years of relevant professional experience in an international development context is required.
    • Prior experience building and supporting BI/Data warehousing solutions with highly visual and responsive Dashboards, Self-service BI tools and knowledge of Big Data analytics. 
    • Prior experience working with commercial and emerging reporting tools and technologies (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, MicroStrategy, D3, etc.).
    • Prior experience in successfully implementing and supporting analytics platforms and/or in IT consulting/staff roles.
    • Strong data visualization skills and working knowledge of data analysis and data mining.
    • Understanding of relational databases, data modelling, data structures and architecture, ETL development and business intelligence tools, techniques and technology, or experience in analytics, business analysis or comparable consumer analytics solutions; experience developing complex reports.
    • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.Fluency in English is required.
