Professor Day Manoli (University of Texas at Austin, Department of Economics) is seeking qualified applicants for full-time research fellowship positions in Washington, DC.
The positions will entail close collaboration with Professor Manoli and his coauthors at the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, DC. Research fellows will assist on and develop a variety of research projects. Current research projects cover a broad range of topics in tax administration and behavioral economics. Much of the research uses big data and randomized controlled trials to test and evaluate various tax policies. These positions offer a unique opportunity to work on large-scale randomized controlled trials, analyze administrative, population-level tax data, and develop research experience.
Applicants who are currently completing or have completed a Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree will be considered for different positions. Candidates would ideally begin on June 1, 2017 or earlier and work in Washington, DC for two years. Salary will be competitive.  
Qualifications
Applicants must be US citizens.
The ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
  • Strong interest and some experience in economics, psychology, behavioral sciences and computer science (candidates do not need to be economics majors)
  • Currently completing (or have completed) a Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree
  • Prior research experience strongly preferred
  • Strong quantitative background
  • Strong computer skills including programming (e.g. Stata, SAS, SQL)
  • Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, works well in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
The job is ideal for someone with an enthusiasm for empirical research in the social sciences and the ability and interest to learn new skills and take initiative as projects develop.
