Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Chief of the English Translation Section, the selected candidate will translate documents from French and Spanish into English. Command of at least one additional source language would be considered an asset. In preparing assignments, the candidate will ensure that translations are equivalent in meaning and style to the original text; carefully research points of terminology, language, and subject matter; and use a wide range of office and translation-related software in the process. Translations produced by the candidate are expected to be final, although sensitive documents may be subject to revision and/or review. The candidate shall also revise/review translations prepared by freelancers, and provide coaching and feedback to freelancers and junior in-house translators.

Under the general supervision of the Chief Interpreter, the selected candidate will provide simultaneous and consecutive interpretation at headquarters, on missions, during Annual/Spring Meetings, and at other conferences and events. When working on mission, the selected candidate will coordinate interpretation assignments and revise and finalize the translation work produced by other team members. 

Qualifications


Candidates must hold an advanced degree, preferably in a language-related field, economics, and/or law, and have a minimum of four years of professional experience in translation and interpretation in the economic and financial fields.

In addition to these qualifications, candidates should possess: native English language proficiency and excellent interpretation and translation skills from French and Spanish into English. The ability to interpret from English into French and Spanish would be considered an additional asset.

Other requirements include: superior knowledge of translation and revision procedures and techniques and of policies, practices, and technologies; experience working in a technologically advanced environment, using networked stations for translation, revision, as well as administrative functions; capacity to work well under pressure and to adapt rapidly to changing requirements while maintaining high levels of production and quality; ability to work as part of a team; good interpersonal skills; and ability to communicate effectively  and diplomatically with IMF staff at all levels. Proven project management skills, experience in leading and supervising teams, and ability to manage multiple requests and prioritize tasks would be regarded as assets.
