Responsibilities
Under the general guidance of the Chief of the UN TV, News and Content Branch, News and Media Division, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:

Coordinates the production and distribution of news stories about UN activities both at the Headquarters and in the field via UNifeed, the UN TV news service; 

Writes the content of video scripts for news and features; shoots and edits high quality, fast-paced short news packages for use in multimedia digital platforms and social media; 

Oversees post-production and editing of video products; proposes programme formats, technical approaches and innovations: maintains daily contacts with news syndicators, broadcasters and other partners;

Supervises UNifeed staff; works closely with in-house IT services and engineers for problem-solving, as well as ongoing improvement efforts; 

Participate in and contribute to NMD daily editorial and planning meetings; 

Undertakes any other assignments given.
Competencies
Professionalism: Progressively responsible professional experience in video production as a writer/producer/director. Experience in a daily news production environment with television news service or similar media outlet. Experience in filming and editing video products. International field experience. Excellent knowledge and diverse expertise in all areas of video production; substantial experience in a television news environment and proven track record in dealing with breaking news; sound editorial judgement and political sensitivity to the nature of the intergovernmental processes; proven ability to conceptualize, write, create and produce creative television productions; familiarity with the TV news broadcasting industry; proven experience developing and managing on-line and social media presence; and highly developed communication (spoken, writing, public speaking and presentational) skills. Takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work. 

Planning and Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies;identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.

Technological Awareness: Keeps abreast of available technology; understands applicability and limitation of technology to the work of the office; actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to learn new technology.
Education
Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in communications, international relations or related fields. A first level university degree in combination with additional (2) two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
Minimum five years of progressively responsible professional experience in video production as a writer/producer/director. Experience in a daily international news production environment with television news service or similar media outlet required. Experience in filming and editing video products required. International field experience required. Experience with social media and digital communication platforms desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidate includes an assessment exercise which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
