Responsibilities
Interns will be expected to work on one or more of the Division's various inspection and evaluation projects.

Within the evaluation projects for the period covered by the internship (see below), interns will:

•Undertake research and analysis on various issues as required by the Chief of Section and evaluation team leader, conducting quantitative or qualitative data analysis as appropriate, preparing presentations of analytical outputs;
•Assist with administrative and logistical aspects associated with planning and conducting the evaluation;
•Support/assist the Chief of Section in other Divisional matters, as required; and
•Perform other duties, as required.

Evaluation projects
For the period covered by the internship, topics are as follows: 
•Offices of the Special Representatives of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (SRSG-CAAC), Sexual Violence in Conflict (SRSG-SVC) and Violence Against Children
(SRSG-VAC); 
•Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM);
•Department of Management (DM); 
•Department of Public Information (DPI);
•Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) – focused on protection of human rights in United Nations peacekeeping operations; review of protection of civilians in United Nations peacekeeping operations; and United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS);
•Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA).

Education
To qualify for an internship through the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, applicants must: 

Meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; 

Be computer literate in standard software applications, preferably including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. Demonstrated exposure, either through work or studies, to skills-building experience and coursework related to the OIOS-IED's work – that is, international affairs, qualitative and quantitative research, and organizational analysis – are highly desirable.

Also desirable are interest in and academic or professional exposure to one or more of the general areas covered by to the OIOS-IED’s planned evaluation topics for the period covered by the internship (described under ‘responsibilities’).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
