Background:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the largest humanitarian agencies in the world providing relief, rehabilitation, and post-conflict reconstruction support to families impacted by conflict and disasters. The IRC has worked for over seven decades and today is involved in over 25 conflict zones in the world. We address both the immediate, life saving needs of conflict-affected people and the reconstruction needs in post-conflict societies. IRC is committed to a culture of bold leadership, innovation in all aspects of our work, creative partnerships, and accountability to those we serve.

The Violence Prevention and Response Unit (VPRU) is comprised by approximately 50 team members supporting programming, resource development, research and learning and policy and advocacy for over 20+ countries. The VPRU is formed by three teams that came together under one umbrella unit to better serve our beneficiaries. These are the Child Protection, Protection & Rule of Law and Women’s Protection, and Empowerment (WPE) teams. With an audacious vision of a world where women and girls are valued and live free from violence, and can exercise their rights to promote their own safety, equality and voice, the IRC is known for its cutting edge anti-violence programming in humanitarian settings.  WPE’s mission is to support programs that facilitate the healing, dignity and self-determination of women and girls who have experienced violence; to create opportunities for women and girls to transform their lives and to make their voices heard in pursuit of a safer, more equitable world; to work in partnership with communities and institutions to promote and protect women’s and girl’s rights and to empower them to enjoy those rights.
